Hidden Design methodologies at Dutch Design Week leads to unexpected & valued insights for ‘Dopper’ her Dopper Water Tap.

About Dopper
We have been briefed on a research for the Dutch Brand ‘Dopper’. Dopper her mission is to end bottled water, so everyone can drink from the tap and refill it anytime, anywhere. Being able to realise her mission, several products on the market are there for consumers to join this mission.

Dopper her water bottles are BPA, phthalate and lead free. Also, they are Cradle Certified®. Every Dopper bottle has a life cyclus, that is trackable via an unique Digital Product Passport.

Next to Dopper her water bottles, and the fact that they are bringing sustainable solutions on the market to fulfill their aim, the Dopper Water Tap points have been introduced for a while. The concept of a Dopper Water Tap is to refill your Dopper bottle with clean water. More than 130.000 Dopper Water Tap points are available in public. Also, the Dopper Water Tap has been introduced for corporate and company purpose. The Water Tap provides employees the ability of tapping water.

Hidden Design Methodology
In an early stage of Dopper her Water Tap Points, the research question have been defined, wether humans are able to share water with each other in public. We did a research intervention at a public event as Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, to find out if people are willing to share water with each other, if it is trusted and a common good, to share the most accesible source in Western of Europe, although the Netherlands.

Hiddin Design Methodologies are used for bigger brands or corporates that have a name out there. Through the Hidden Design Methodology, you start to validate assumptions that are defined by a brand before a product release or launch. Questions that we defined for Dopper used to be:

Defined Questions
> Is it accessible to take water out of a Public Water Tap Point?
> Are people willing to share water with each other, if it comes from a regular and Public Tap?
> If a company is using a product as a water tap, would that provide trust?
> What would be the treshold for people to consume water from a product as a Public Water Tap?
> Would it increase if we personalize paper cups with Dopper her mission to consume water from the Water Bottle?

Hidden Design has been applied by representing a Local Water Supplier in Eindhoven, called ‘Brabant Water’. We personalised the paper cups and included Dopper her mission and aim for a better planet, with less use of plastic.
